HOUSTON Firefighters extinguished a fire at pipe manufacturing facility late Friday in northwest Harris County.

According to the Cy-Fair Fire Department, the fire started at about 4:30 p.m. inside the Rilco Manufacturing plant in the 11400 block of Brittmoore Park Drive.

Initially, the firefighters were having issues getting water to battle the flames when they first arrived at the site. However, they were able to find a water supply and have stopped the fire from spreading outside of the facility.

Fire officials said that the urethane liquid housed at the facility is what was difficult to extinguish. The chemical is used to make polyurethane foam, which serves as insulation for pipes.

There were an estimated 100 barrels of the chemical in the facility with each holding 55 gallons of polyurethane, fire officials said.

At least one worker was sent to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, fire officials said. No other injuries were reported. Fire officials said that the cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
