HOUSTON — A firefighter was hospitalized after suffering burns during a fire in southeast Houston, according to HFD Chief Samuel Pena.
The fire started around 10:30 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex on Telephone Road just north of Hobby Airport.
Officials haven't said what caused the fire but said a firefighter suffered burn injuries while fighting it. The firefighter was taken to the hospital and is currently stable.
"The firefighter is in pain, but in stable condition," Pena tweeted. "Tough, tough individual! Prayers for a full and speedy recovery."
According to the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association, the firefighter suffered possible second and third-degree burns after falling through the roof.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area at this time. This is a developing story. We'll update this post if and when we get more information.
