Cy-Fair firefighters responding to explosion in northwest Harris County

Social media was flooded with reports of hearing a "boom." Officials say a "vessel" exploded.

HOUSTON — A pressurized tank or vessel exploded at a commercial building in northwest Harris County Tuesday afternoon. One person had minor injuries.

Cy-Fair Fire Department officials said they were called out to a business on Brittmore Road just west of Beltway 8 and north of Clay Road in northwest Harris County. They said they received a report of an explosion at the business just before 2 p.m.

Investigators said the explosion happened during oil field tool testing.

There was no fire after the initial explosion, the fire marshal said. The person who was injured was evaluated at the hospital and released.

Some nearby buildings had broken windows and other minor damage.

Air 11 showed a crane with a crumpled white tank nearby.

KHOU 11 viewers shared videos that captured the sound of the explosion.

They said the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office also responded to the scene.

The CFFD said neighboring businesses reported damage to their roofs and some vehicles.

Social media was flooded after people reported hearing a loud "boom" and feeling shaking in their homes in the area. KHOU 11 Meteorologist Chris Ramirez said he heard the explosion and it shook the door of his parent's home in north Houston.
