Elderly man found in a pool of blood in stairwell of his Houston apartment, family says

74-year-old Louis Redmon's family said he was missing for several hours before a trail of items led them to the 5th floor, where they found him in a pool of blood.

HOUSTON — 74-year-old Louis Redmon is being treated at Ben Taub Hospital after his family found him Monday evening in the stairwell of his apartment in a pool of blood.

“We want to know what happened to Louis,” said sister, Beverly Pugh. “I want to know what happened to my brother. She wants to know what happened to her grandfather. My niece wants to know what happened to her dad.”

His family told KHOU 11 News he suffered head trauma and is in the ICU.

“Monday, we got a call from a neighbor stating that my grandfather had wandered into to their apartment and that my mom needed to come down and check for him. When my mom got to the building, she'd talked to management. Management said they haven't seen him,” said Redmon's granddaughter, Brande Reed.

Reed said they were worried because of a medical condition he has.

“He has seizures and when he has seizures, he gets very discombobulated in her fear was that he will get lost,” said Reed.

Eventually their search brought them inside the stairwell of his apartment building.

Reed shared images of what they found. They found items in a sort of trail eventually leading to him on the 5th floor, where they found blood.

“I was just surprised that he was alive, you know, in the point that he had been down there all day long,’ said Reed.

Houston police told KHOU 11 News this is being investigated by their major assaults division. They still don’t have a suspect and are canvassing the area for video.

Meanwhile the family and community activists are calling for security cameras to be placed in the apartment complex that houses a lot of people who are elderly and/or disabled.

“We demand cameras immediately being installed at this facility. Install cameras tomorrow, or this will happen again,” said Quanell X.

HPD said there is a reward up to $5,000 for anyone with information that can help lead to an arrest. You can call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-tips.
