HPD: 6 people taken to hospital in crash after driver hits, kills man on East Freeway

Police said the six people hurt in the crash are expected to be OK.

HOUSTON — A driver hit and killed a man who was standing in a main lane of the East Freeway early Saturday morning, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said when that driver stopped after the crash, another car crashed into the back of her vehicle.

This happened around 12:15 a.m. on the East Freeway near Federal Road.

Police said there were five people in the vehicle that crashed into the woman's car. The five people and the woman were taken to a hospital and are all expected to be OK.

"She's probably banged up, but she should be alright," HPD Lt. R. Willkens said of the driver of the first car.

Willkens said it's unclear why the man was standing in the road.

"No one will ever know what he was doing out there unless family knows or something," Willkens said.

Willkens said the man who was hit is believed to be in his 30s.
