Domino's delivering apology after calling customer 'lady with Muslim husband'

BACLIFF, Texas – Amber Nasim says a normally delicious pizza left her sick to her stomach.

“I was enraged,” said Nasim.

It happened after she picked up a to-go order Friday night from Domino’s.

“I’m not going to lie, I flipped out,” said Nasim. “I started cussing and yelling and flicking them off.”

Order stickers on three different pizza boxes identified Nasim as “lady with Muslim husband.”

Nasim was at the store with her husband, Wajahat, who happens to be Muslim.

Nasim had requested a clean cut on two of the pizzas so pork products from her mother’s ham pizza wouldn’t be intermingled.

Domino's is apologizing for giving a woman three pizzas labeled "lady with Muslim husband." In a statement Domino's said, "She did not receive the service or respect she should expect from our brand."

“When they handed me the pizza, they turned it around backwards to hide what they had done,” said Nasim. “I saw them trying to hide it.”

Nasim posted her frustrations on Facebook and added emojis to amplify her disgust.

“This kind of hate and racism has to stop,” she wrote on the post.

“I just want people to realize this is not OK,” said Nasim.

Nasim said an assistant manager apologized after the encounter.

The manager on duty when KHOU 11 News called referred us corporate.

A spokesperson issued this statement:

She did not receive the service or respect she should expect from our brand. As a walk-in customer, we should have asked for her name and number to identify her order, which did not happen on this particular busy night. A special request she made on behalf of her husband for a clean cut on the pizza, due to religious considerations – which is something we accommodate regularly without issue – should not have been used to identify her or her order.

The team member involved has been reprimanded and feels badly about this incident.

We welcome the opportunity to speak to her and offer her our heartfelt apology and make amends.

“Islam is about forgiveness and peace, which people don’t understand,” said Nasim.

Nasim said she’s willing to forgive.

But Domino’s will no longer be on the menu.

KHOU 11 News put her in touch with a corporate employee.
