Pit bull attacks toddler in stroller, mother in Spring, Precinct 4 says

The woman was pushing the child on Manon Lane when the dog attacked the toddler. She was also attacked when she tried to defend the child, Pct. 4 said.

SPRING, Texas — A toddler and a woman were rushed to the hospital Wednesday night after a dog attacked them in Spring, according to Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman's Office.

The woman was pushing her 1-year-old son in a stroller when the pit bull attacked the child first, Precinct 4 said. When the woman tried to defend her son, the dog attacked her, too.

It happened in a neighborhood on Manon Lane near Spring Cypress Road.

A day after the attack, the mother and child were back home recovering but didn't want to talk on camera. She said a neighbor came to their rescue, saving them from worse injuries.

That neighbor shared her story with KHOU 11 News.

"It attacked the mom and knocked her to the ground (while she was) trying to fight off the dog. The baby was lying on the street. I picked it up and ran. There was a lot of blood," the neighbor said.

The child didn't need stitches but the mother did need them in her right arm.

Animal Control picked up the dog but its owner is unknown.

Precinct 4 reminded dog owners that their pets must always be on a leash.

"Even dogs that are off-leash-trained should be on a leash when in public spaces," Precinct 4 said. "This is for the safety of everyone. An unleashed dog approaching can make dogs and people uncomfortable."
