Details: Houston's 75th H-E-B Thanksgiving Day parade

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis will serve as this year’s grand marshal and will be joined by other Houston-based Olympians.

HOUSTON — City officials revealed details for Houston's 75th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade, a beloved tradition that attracts hundreds of thousands of Houstonians every year.

The parade is set to take place on Nov. 28, stepping off at 9 a.m. from Lamar and Smith streets.

Watch the 75th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade in KHOU 11 and stream on KHOU 11+, available on Roku, FireTV and Apple TV.

From Smith Street, the parade turns right down Walker Street, then right on Milam Street. It turns right our Pease Street, then right on Louisiana Street. From Louisiana Street, it turns left onto Clay Street and right on Smith Street once again.

Street closures

Roads were closed starting Tuesday to prepare parade floats, staging and disbanding after the parade. All streets will be reopened by 3 p.m. Thursday unless otherwise noted.

Monday, November 25 to Monday December 9

  • Walker between Bagby & Smith (north & south curb lane) at 7:00 a.m.
  • McKinney between Bagby & Smith (north curb lane) at 7:00 a.m.

Tuesday, November 26, 2024 to Thursday, November 28, 2024

Parade staging (floats)

  • McKinney between Bagby & Smith and McKinney between Smith & Louisiana (all lanes) at 9:00 a.m.
  • Brazos between Dallas & Lamar (two center lanes) at 11:30 a.m. - Note: East & West curb lanes will remain open, the floats are to arrive by 11:30 a.m.
  • Lamar between Smith & Bagby (two south curb lanes) at 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, November 27, 2024 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 28, 2024

Parade staging/load-in/rehearsal

  • Walker between Bagby & Smith (two south curb lanes from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

  • Smith between Walker & Lamar (lanes) from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Corner of Sabine at Allen Pkwy re-directing traffic coming from Hwy 45 Off Ramp into Sabine towards Memorial Dr (6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. only)
  • Allen Parkway (inbound) between Taft & Bagby
  • Bagby (northbound) between Dallas & McKinney
  • Bagby (southbound) between Walker & Clay
  • Lamar between Louisiana & outbound Allen Parkway at I-45 overpass
  • Gillette St. (close midblock - beginning north of The Federal Reserve Bank to Allen Parkway)

Parade route between 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. / Parade begins at 9:00 a.m.

  • Smith between Lamar & Walker
  • Walker between Smith & Milam
  • Milam between Walker & Pease
  • Pease between Milam & Louisiana
  • Louisiana between Pease & Clay
  • Clay between Louisiana & Smith
  • Smith between Clay & Dallas / Parade concludes on Smith at Dallas

Grand marshal

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis will serve as this year’s grand marshal and will be joined by other Houston-based athletes who competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

The event is free, though premium seating is available for $28.25. Other spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Plenty of parking will be available.

For those unable to attend in person, the parade will be broadcast live on KHOU 11, KHOU 11+ and our social media sites on Thursday, Nov. 28.
