Two 'very decomposed' bodies found in back of 18-wheeler in northwest Houston

"Appears to be two bodies for sure. I mean, they've been there a very long time so they're very decomposed, almost look like a mummy," Lt. Willkens said.

HOUSTON — Two people who were believed to have been experiencing homelessness were found dead in the back of an 18-wheeler in northwest Houston early Thursday morning, police said.

Lt. R. Willkens with the Houston Police Department said the discovery was made after citizens called 911 shortly after midnight when they heard some people who were also experiencing homelessness talk about the bodies.

Crews with HPD and the Houston Fire Department responded to the area and started searching a parking lot with a lot of 18-wheelers filled with Purple Heart donations, but couldn't find anything initially.

At some point, crews noticed a hole had been cut into the roof of one of the trucks. HFD brought a ladder and the bodies were discovered.

"Appears to be two bodies for sure. I mean, they've been there a very long time so they're very decomposed, almost look like a mummy," Lt. Willkens said.

Willkens said it appeared the two had been living in the truck.

The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
