HOUSTON — A house fire claimed the life of a man late Tuesday night in the South Park area, according to fire officials.
Houston Fire Department officials said the fire broke out just after 10 p.m. at a home on Doulton Drive near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and south of the 610 South Loop.
When firefighters arrived on the scene just three minutes after receiving the call, neighbors reported that a man was trapped inside the burning home. First responders discovered the victim’s body in a bedroom shortly after extinguishing the flames.
“It looks like the fire started in the bedroom, where the victim was located from what we can tell on the exterior. Like I said, the Arson Division will have to take a look at it," HFD Deputy Chief John Douglas said at the scene.
The fire was brought under control quickly, but investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire.
