HOUSTON — Two people were killed and another was injured in a fiery head-on collision near the Westpark Tollway Monday night, according to the Houston Police Department.
This happened around 9:45 p.m. on Synott Road just south of the tollway.
Police said a Dodge pickup truck was heading north while two others were heading south on Synott Road. The truck had been seen speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.
That is when he struck a Nissan Altima, which then spun out and slammed into a pole, police said. The Altima ended up in a church parking lot.
Then the truck hit a Chevrolet Malibu head-on, police said.
Police said the driver of the Dodge and the driver of the Malibu were pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the Altima was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Police said they believe the Dodge was trying to go around another vehicle in front of him when the first collision occurred.
Witnesses, who were behind the Dodge, stayed at the scene to give police an account of what happened.
Good Samaritans also tried to rescue the driver of the Malibu from the burning wreckage but were not able to save him, police said.
