HOUSTON — A woman reached out to KHOU 11 News after she said her dog was killed in an attack.
Katryn Barrett said she had to call the police to come get the dogs that attacked her puppy.
It was all caught on camera.
Barrett said 10-month-old Tank was a beloved member of her family and she's devastated that he's gone.
"He's a friendly little dog," she said.
Barrett said she had Tank, a French bulldog, since he was 7 weeks old.
But early Friday morning, he died in her arms.
"It seemed like he was grasping for air like he was trying to breathe and he just gave out," she said of his final moments.
Barrett said she let Tank out while she was cleaning inside. In what felt like a matter of moments, a pack of dogs from a nearby property came into her yard and mauled Tank.
"He is shredded. My dog is shredded and it's a $15,000 dog, not no junkyard dog," she said.
The hardest part for her was watching the surveillance video knowing she was just inside. KHOU 11 chose to not show the entire video because it's too graphic.
"Me seeing that was very emotional for me," she said.
Barrett said she called police and BARC came out to pick up three of the attacking dogs.
People at the property from which the attacking dogs came said they didn't know who the owner was and said they didn't have any dogs despite a sign in the front saying otherwise.
Even though Barrett lost a part of her family, she's counting her blessings because she thinks things could have been worse.
She's hoping for some accountability.
"What if my kid was out here and they could have killed my daughter? She can't defend herself. She is 8 years old. What is she going to do?" Barrett said.
Houston police said they'll follow up to find out who owns the dogs and if charges are warranted. BARC said it will go back out to the property on Saturday to get the other two dogs.
