Police said a white Crown Victoria driving west on Briar Forest made a wrong right turn, heading north in the southbound lanes, and hit a Mercedes carrying three people.
HPD said a passenger in the back seat of the Mercedes died. Another person was also killed in the initial crash.
Police said they found evidence inside the Crown Victoria, leading them to believe the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Police said there was a second crash that followed the initial incident.
“While that crash was going and people were getting out of their vehicle, we had a Toyota that was also headed southbound in the northbound lanes who struck the Mercedes, causing more injuries," Sgt. Dallas, with HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, said.
Police said the driver of the Toyota wasn’t hurt, but two more people were taken to the hospital following the first wreck.
