'Never seen anything like this' | Surveillance video shows speeding car before it crashed into Cypress home

The wreckage is still in Lynda Gilpin's garage as her insurance company works to get it cleaned up.

CYPRESS, Texas — Lynda Gilpin has lived at her home in Cypress on Ravensway Drive for 23 years and is loved by her neighbors.

"The sweet, little, old lady that's always out in her yard making it look pretty," Skye Greene said.

Last week, though, something that hadn't happened before caught her off-guard.

On Wednesday, a car crashed into her home. Luckily, Gilpin is OK and she's somehow staying positive throughout the process even though the car is still on her property -- underneath her own car and other things.

"Even the insurance people say they've never seen anything like this," Gilpin said.

The car crashed into her garage just before midnight. The impact was caught on camera by SentriForce -- which provides video surveillance services for the community.

"I just heard this sound, like a bomb went off, and I ran out of the house across my patio that was covered with glass," Gilpin said. "The neighbors ... everyone heard it ... even behind us."

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the driver of the car admitted to being on his phone and speeding down the street. He was given citations for failure to control speed and having no insurance.

Now, the car is stuck in Gilpin's garage.

"I was just so thankful that this young man got out of there because it looked impossible," Gilpin said.

She said her garage continues to collapse and her car is stuck under the wreckage -- her freezer, too.

"It has moved 3 feet off of the foundation. And then on the other side, it has continually buckled and leaned toward the ... dining room and kitchen and my laundry room," Gilpin said.

Thankfully, she has insurance, but it's still a lot. A GoFundMe account was created to help her. Neighbors are also stepping up to offer assistance.

"She is well-loved among the community, among our church, her church, family and others that just know of her through the community of Ravensway," Greene said.

Gilpin is concerned about what will happen if it rains before repairs are made but she's staying positive and thankful for the help she's gotten so far.

"Just so many of my neighbors have really just been so nice," Gilpin said.

She said her insurance company showed up and took pictures. They said the goal is to get the car out of her garage sometime this week.
