CYPRESS, Texas — It took two weeks for the car that crashed into Lynda Gilpin’s garage to be removed.
After it was gone, Gilpin said she had a lot of cleaning to do.
“I have a mess, a big mess,” said Gilpin. “It’s just something I’ve never experienced, and I know people have gone through disastrous things, and it’s just things they can be replaced. I’m just glad no one was hurt."
On Sunday, a crew with a heavy-duty tow truck hauled the car out of Gilpin's garage and on Monday, the garage was torn down. Gilpin is now going through and finding what’s left.
“All my little tools to work in the garden, and these are kits with screwdrivers and all that," she showed KHOU 11 reporter Julissa Garza. “The rest is just stuff that you use."
Gilpin said she's still looking for some of her other items, like her journals that hold memories from mission trips.
“They were covered up with black garbage bags, but they were in plastic tires, so, they're somewhere here," she said. "I just haven't had a chance to find them."
This chapter in Gilpin's life hasn't been the easiest.
“I can't say I’ve gotten much sleep because I have not been sleeping well and I wake up in the middle of the night,” said Gilpin.
There's still a lot to be done with her insurance company when it comes to the garage and her car, but she's just glad to be one step closer to things being back to normal. Her main focus -- staying positive.
“I don't know how long it'll take them to get that all settled and get it ready to start rebuilding but thankful that it can be replaced," said Gilpin.
