Pct. 4: Boy with autism dies after being found unresponsive in northeast Harris County pool

The Harris Co. Precinct 4 Constable's Office posted about the 7-year-old's death around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

HOUSTON — A 7-year-old boy who was found unresponsive in a northeast Harris County pool has died. That’s according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

The constable’s office said the 7-year-old was found in a pool along Fox Forest Trail and Kenswick Meadows, which is just north of FM 1960 and just west of the Eastex Freeway in the Humble area. It happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials later said he had autism.

Investigators said first responders attempted CPR on the boy but he was already dead.

They said the child was being watched by an older brother at the home while their mother left to run an errand.

"The mother came home and 4 o'clock and was looking for the child. She did call the sheriff's office after checking the neighborhood but it was too late," Harris County Sheriff's Office Det. Wallace Wyatt said.

When the news settled in, the mother was seen trying to walk away from the house before collapsing into the arms of deputies while sobbing.

According to the National Autism Association, children with autism are 160 times more likely to die from drowning than the general pediatric population.
