Engineers are investigating the cause of the collapse near the East River mixed-use development in Houston's Fifth Ward.

HOUSTON — Crews are working to repair part of a hike and bike trail along Buffalo Bayou that collapsed Tuesday afternoon.

It happened near the East River mixed-use development at 100 Jensen, east of downtown Houston.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for East River said that initial assessments indicated nearby buildings remained stable.

Engineers are working to figure out what caused a big chunk of the trail to collapse.

East River is 150 acres of waterfront property in the Fifth Ward that will eventually include retail, restaurants and recreational opportunities, according to the website.
