Section of Buffalo Bayou hike and bike trail collapses near new mixed-use development in Fifth Ward

"Engineering teams are investigating the cause and developing a repair plan," Initial assessments indicate nearby buildings remain stable," East River said.

HOUSTON — A big chunk of a hike and bike trail along Buffalo Bayou collapsed Tuesday afternoon near the new East River mixed-use development in Houston's Fifth Ward.

It happened at 100 Jensen, east of downtown.

A spokesperson for East River sent us the following statement.

"We are actively addressing a settlement issue affecting a section of the hike and bike trail. Our top priorities are public safety, site stabilization, and restoring the trail. We are committed to swift resolution and will provide updates as more information becomes available."

East River is 150 acres of waterfront property that will eventually include retail, restaurants and recreational opportunities, according to the website.
