BCSO: Third family member dies after manufactured home collapse in Brazoria County

On Wednesday morning, the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a 15-year-old who was taken to the hospital Sunday in critical condition has died.

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas — A third family member has died following a manufactured home collapsed Sunday in Brazoria County. 

The sheriff's office confirmed to KHOU 11 that a 15-year-old boy who was in critical condition after the collapse died on Tuesday. A 17-year-old and 31-year-old were pronounced dead on Sunday. Four others were taken to the hospital.

It happened on County Road 42 about five miles north of Angleton in Brazoria County a little after 5 p.m. Sunday. The sheriff's office said they got a call saying a mobile home that was being leveled collapsed.

According to BCSO, family members working at the home were reported to be trapped underneath the structure. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

The sheriff's office said some jack equipment may have failed. According to investigators, there was not a leveling company on-site at the time of the collapse. They also said it didn't appear that anyone was actually inside the house while it was being leveled.

Five people were rescued from beneath the structure. Four were transported by helicopter to Houston-area hospitals and another person was transported to an area hospital via ambulance.

According to BCSO, they had to use a chainsaw to cut through the floor of the home to get one of the victims.

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident.
