HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE: The boil water notice was lifted Wednesday afternoon.
=====
Harris County FWSD 45 issued a boil water notice Monday night after a water outage was caused by power loss.
That covers an area in north Harris County that services residents in the Southbrook subdivision in the Greenspoint area.
Customers there should boil any water before consumption, including using it for hand washing, teeth brushing and drinking.
The FWSD said customers should also boil any water used for cooking or for making ice.
"The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes," the notice reads.
If boiling water is not an option, customers in the affected area should use bottled water instead.
Harris County FWSD 45 will let customers know once the boil water notice is lifted.
Specifics of a boil water advisory might be given by different communities, but below are standard recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control.
- Use bottled or boiled water for drinking, preparing and cooking, brushing teeth and making ice. This includes water for pets.
- If bottled water is not available, bring water to a full rolling boil for 1 minute (Harris County FWSD 45 recommends 2 minutes), then allow it to cool before use.
- Boil tap water even if it is filtered.
- Do not use water from any appliance connected to your water line, such as ice and water from a refrigerator.
- Breastfeeding is the best infant feeding option. If you formula feed your child, provide ready-to-use formula, if available.
