Man's body found next to railroad tracks in West University area

Houston police are investigating.

HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating after a man's body was found near West University Monday.

The body was found by railroad personnel in a residential neighborhood on 5500 Community Drive. That's east of the West Loop, between the Southwest Freeway and Bissonnet.

Investigators said it appears the man was trying to get on the train. The man has not been identified but police said he may have been homeless.

A nearby resident said he's been living in the area for nearly five years and this scene is unusual.

"Last night there was a thud, I thought someone may have broken into my car. I looked it was nothing," said the resident. "But when I woke up this morning...I noticed a lot of activity ringing on my phone and I realized something had happened behind the house."

Investigators said this is not being ruled a homicide at this time.
