Body found in ditch by construction workers in Fort Bend County identified as 61-year-old man

FBCSO said they have reason to believe Enrique Godinez's body had been in the area since May 24. His body was found on June 11.

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a man found dead in a drainage ditch by construction workers last week.

On June 11 at a little after  1 p.m., Fort Bend County dispatch received a call from construction workers saying they discovered a body along FM 361 at Pine Meadow Lane, which is just off Highway 36 between Rosenberg and Needville.

Investigators said it appears as if the man, now identified as Enrique Godinez, 61, was riding a bike and was hit by a vehicle since bicycle and motor vehicle debris was found nearby.

The sheriff's office said Godinez's family filed a missing persons report with the Rosenberg Police Department on May 28, 2024, indicating he had been missing since May 19.

A review of FBCSO traffic calls made to FM 361 revealed that a call was made to dispatch by a Lamar Consolidated Independent School District officer on May 24. The call was about an accident and a stalled vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

A deputy was sent to the location to investigate. That deputy spoke with the driver of the stalled vehicle and completed a crash report.

FBCSO said they have reason to believe Godinez's body had been in the area since May 24. The driver of the stalled vehicle is listed as a person of interest in this case, according to officials.

An internal investigation into the initial accident investigation done on May 24 by the FBCSO deputy is underway.

"Our sympathies are with the Godinez family," said Sheriff Eric Fagan. "We are working diligently to piece together what happened at the scene."
