AUSTIN, Texas — It's that time of year when haunted houses pop up all over Central Texas!
On Saturday, Oct. 28, you can check one out in southwest Austin that benefits a good cause. The haunted house is free, but accepts donations of nonperishable foods.
Eric Guerra loves a good scare and one look at his elaborate setup will have you praying for daylight. You see, for the past 15 years, Guerra's been the brains behind this haunted house just west of Sunset Valley on Westview Road.
To say the haunted house is huge would be an understatement. The screams cover nearly two acres with projections, animatronics, and volunteers dying to frighten the trick-or-treaters.
"I'll say ok, I have a gargoyle station," Guerra said. "You want to be a gargoyle? Great, I'm going to have a video and an animatronic and you can jump out.
But what really makes it stand out is that it's free! The only thing you're encouraged to do is donate nonperishable foods. Last year alone, Guerra collected 800 pounds of food.
The food then makes its way in the back of Guerra's truck to the food bank. So if you can work up the courage, come at your own risk. Just remember to bring a donation.
"It's worth it," Guerra said. "Trust me. Cause I'm in it. And I'm gonna be sitting in the chainsaw area."
The haunted house will run Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8 p.m. to midnight at 5506 Westview Road.
