HOUSTON – A new tiger made its debut Tuesday morning at the Houston Zoo.
Berani is a 3-year-old, 280 lb. Malayan tiger.
He came to Houston from Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington in late January.
Berani and Satu, a female tiger, will take turns in the tiger yard while they undergo a formal introduction process overseen by zookeepers.
Fewer than 3,500 total tigers remain in the wild today, according to the Tiger Conservation Campaign. Only about 300 of them are Malayan tigers.
