Hundreds of animals are looking for a home this holiday season.
So the Harris County Animal Shelter and Best Friends Animal Society are teaming up to help.
The shelter, located off 612 Canino Road in north Houston, is offering $10 adoption fees for all cats and dogs over 30 pounds.
“The best gift a shelter pet can get is a loving and permanent home,” said Dr. Michael White, director of the Harris County Animal Shelter. “Even though we work hard to make the shelter a comfortable environment, it’s no substitute for the warmth and joy a family’s home can provide.”
Adoptable Animals: Meet Freddy, Chico & Hugo at the Harris County Animal Shelter
All adopted animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped and come with a one-year pet license.
The shelter is open weekdays from 1 to 5:30 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to adopt must be at least 18 years old and have a valid ID.
The shelter is also looking for people who can provide short-term, temporary foster care and also volunteers to help around the shelter. To learn more, visit CountyPets.com.
If you can’t make it to the shelter, the county’s mobile pet adoption unit will be making two stops throughout Harris County as part of “Santa’s Sleigh of Adoptable Animals.” You can adopt a pet, make a commemorative paw print ornament or snap a selfie with Santa.
