Texas is one of only four states that does not have a cell phone-and-driving ban. However, nearly one in five traffic crashes in Texas is caused by a distracted driver.

  • In 2014, more than 3,000 people were killed in distracted driving crashes.
    • More than 430,000 others were hurt - that's the equivalent of everyone living in The Woodlands, Pearland, Sugar Land, Galveston and Missouri City.
  • At any given moment, 660,000 drivers are on cell phones, a statistic that has held steady since 2010.
  • Almost 170 billion text messages are sent each month across the United States.
  • Drivers in their 20's make up 38% of distracted drivers who were on their phone during a deadly crash
