HOUSTON, Texas — The Coast Guard medavaced an 85-year-old man from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship on Sunday night.

The ship was 24 miles off Galveston, Texas when the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders were requested at 6:30 p.m.

Crew members on the Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas cruise ship said the 85-year-old man had suffered a head injury during a fall on the vessel.

The Coast Guard said its duty flight surgeon recommended a medevac for the man.

A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter that was already airborne was diverted to conduct the medevac.

The man was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he was stable, according to the Coast Guard.
