CORRIGAN, Texas -- At least seven workers were injured during a fire at a Georgia Pacific plywood plant in Corrigan Saturday just north of Livingston.
At least four of the workers were airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, while three others were taken by ambulance to a hospital in Lufkin.
The explosion happened around 6:30 p.m. at a plant where they manufacture plywood. According to firefighters, there was a problem with a sawdust collection system and the dust caught fire.
The workers with the most serious injuries were brought to Houston to be treated.
According to the fire chief in Corrigan, their injuries are very bad.
Georgia Pacific released statement late Saturday.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, said Georgia Pacific spokesman Eric Abercrombie.
At this point, it's not clear what caused that explosion. The company said the plant's operations will be shut down for an undetermined amount of time.
