Houston — Houston - The Broadway smash hit Hamilton is kicking off its nearly one month run in Houston on Tuesday at the Hobby Center.
The critically acclaimed play about Alexander Hamilton is one of the most sought after tickets but it will also cost theater-goers a pretty penny.
The opening show will start at 7:30 p.m. and there still tickets available.
Some Houstonians like Danny Ivy already have their tickets for the blockbuster play.
“Everybody is lined up to see it. There’s lines. There’s waiting lists. It came here. It’s good. It’s going to be a good play,” Ivy said.
The craze behind Hamilton is spiking the interest of others.
Myrna Franklin said, “I do know just from reading about It, hearing it on the news, that it is an excellent play and I would love to go see it.”
The hype behind the Broadway musical comes with a hefty price tag.
A couple of tickets on Ticketmaster were being sold for $800.
The cheapest ticket for Tuesday’s opening show started at $230.
“That’s way out of my budget, but if there was another option like a lottery or something of that nature, some kind of discount, I would gladly love to participate in that,” Franklin said.
There is a lottery in place to get tickets for a much cheaper price.
Thirty-two orchestra tickets will be sold for every performance for $10.
Those interested in submitting their names in the lottery will have to download the Hamilton app on their smartphone and enter to win.
The lottery opens up at 11 a.m. two days before every show and winners are notified the next day.
Franklin said, “For a person like me and others who would love to go that can’t afford the actual cost of the ticket, the lottery is a wonderful idea.”
There’s plenty of opportunities for people to submit their name into each drawing.
Hamilton runs at the Hobby Center through May 20.
