TEXAS CITY, Texas A La Marque teenager was shot and killed Tuesday night while he and two friends were riding in a truck in Texas City.
Police said the gunshot came from inside the truck, and a 16-year-old passenger was being held in the shooting.
Blake Riley Sobnosky, 16, was with friends driving a Dodge pickup in the 2100 block of Fifth Avenue North near the Nessler Center at 6:30 p.m. when a gun was fired from inside the truck, Texas City Police Chief Robert Burby said. When police arrived, they found Sobnosky slumped across the front seat of the truck with a single gunshot wound to his right side.
Sobnosky was taken to Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, where he was pronounced dead. The Galveston County Medical Examiner s Office said Sobnosky died from a bullet wound to his torso.
A 16-year-old Texas City boy who was in the truck fled the scene, police said. After a search, the teen was seen by an officer trying to discard a pistol, police department spokesman Sgt. Joe Stanton said. The gun was found, and the teen was arrested, he said.
The 16-year-old was in the Galveston County Juvenile Detention Center and was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon.
The teen, who was not identified because of his age, will remain in the juvenile facility pending a detention hearing, police said.
