HPD: Man fatally shot, robbed after cashing his tax-refund check

Police said three suspects who shot and killed a man for his tax refund were still on the run Tuesday.

HOUSTON Police said three suspects who shot and killed a man for his tax refund were still on the run Tuesday.

The suspects all young men were last seen in an older, gray four-door Chevy or Oldsmobile and a gold two-door car that may have been a Monte Carlo.

Police said the suspects approached Kirk Oliver Daley, 30, outside a check-cashing business in the 8100 block of Homestead Road around 4:55 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said Daley had just left work with several of his coworkers and cashed his tax-refund check.

He was walking toward his car when the suspects walked up, demanding money.

Police said Daley struggled with the suspects and tried to flee, but he was fatally shot as he ran away.

One of the suspects then went through Daley s pockets as he lay on the ground and took the cash, investigators said.

Anyone with information on this case or on the identities of the suspects is urged to contact HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
