HOUSTON -- Houston police identified on Tuesday a man who was found dead Monday morning in the parking lot of a Burger King in the Montrose area.
It would take nearly four hours for someone to discover the dead person inside a vehicle parked at 1002 Westheimer.
The victim has been identified as Sam Delaschott, 44, of Houston.
Houston Police investigators believe the crime happened at 4:23 a.m.
It's still unbelievable and makes no sense, said Celia Delaschott, Sam's ex-wife. I want to know. I watch CSI and Criminal Minds. I'm trying to piece it together.
Delaschott worked in the oil and gas business and was on his way back from a time share on Lake Conroe.
Police believe he stopped at the St. James Cabaret in the 500 block of Rankin Road and was alone.
After the club closed, police tell KHOU11 News that he drove to the back of the Montrose Burger King parking lot.
Everybody that's from the Houston area knows about the area of Montrose and Westheimer but specifically why he was there was unclear to us, said senior officer Mike Miller with the homicide unit.
In grainy surveillance video, you can see one person approach his Jeep after it sat there for about 15 minutes.
Moments later, three people ran from the vehicle.
I'm assuming after they shot him, they rummaged through his center console to find belongings and in addition to the belongings they took his cell phone as well, said Miller. It looks like he might have been a victim of a surprise attack with one person approaching and then two others sneaking up.
Delaschott died from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
He was a good man without a criminal history not as much as a traffic ticket, said Miller. He simply was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
His ex-wife is pleading for anyone who might have been in the area and seen something to come forward.
He didn't have any enemies, Delaschott. So I don't know. I don't understand and I need closure.
