Memorial Hermann Notifies Patients of Privacy Incident

HOUSTON –The Memorial Hermann Health System announced Friday that it is mailing letters to patients related to a privacy breach incident.

Memorial Hermann officials said they recently learned that a now former clinical employee accessed 10,604 patients' electronic medical records outside of the employee's normal job duties from December 2007 to July 2014.

They learned of the incident on July 7, 2014 , suspended the employee's access and launched an investigation.

They determined the employee accessed patient medical records during that time, including names, addresses, dates of birth, and in some cases Social Security numbers.

The hospital said financial records, like credit cards or bank accounts were not included.

Memorial Hermann did not say why the now former employee accessed the records, or what damage, if any, was done.

They are mailing letters to the affected patients, and have set up a dedicated hotline for consumers to call.

More information can be found on the Memorial Hermann website.
