KATY, Texas A Katy nurse says she was fired for refusing the flu shot.
Keriann Wilkie said she wasn t allowed to make the choice that so many other have.
I love being a nurse, Wilkie said. I love taking care of patients.
She has worked for a nurse for five years, most recently Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy. When it came time for the required flu shot, she refused.
There are risks to the shot and I think they outweigh the benefits, Wilkie said.
The hospital informed told her get it or you re fired.
She was suspended for three days then terminated.
The hospital said their policy is based on CDC guidelines which recommend all health care workers receive flu vaccinations.
Wilkie has since found a new nursing job.
