Houston hospitals, clinics cutting back on some services on Monday due to Beryl

Beryl is expected to hammer Houston with tropical storm-force winds and torrential rain on Monday so medical facilities have announced closings or shorter hours.

HOUSTON — With Beryl roaring toward the Texas coast, several Houston outpatient medical facilities and other locations are cutting back on operations and services on Monday, July 8. 

All area hospitals will remain open for emergencies.

Memorial Hermann  

Due to emergent weather conditions, some Memorial Hermann locations will open late, be closed or only conduct virtual visits on Monday, July 8.

For patients who have scheduled Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation appointments during this time, please contact Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Centralized Scheduling at (713) 521-0020 or (888) 301-8477.

Patients who have scheduled appointments with Memorial Hermann Medical Group and Memorial Hermann Imaging Centers during this time will be contacted to reschedule their appointments.

Patients who have scheduled appointments with Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Associates during this time will be contacted to reschedule. If you need further assistance, please call (713) 704-7100.

If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1 or go to a nearby emergency room.

Harris Health

Harris Health hospitals—Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson—will remain open and maintain emergency medical services throughout the storm. The hospitals are not equipped to be shelters for people who are not admitted as patients. Any persons seeking shelter at a hospital will be redirected or transported to a local shelter operation, as available.

Harris Health will close all of its outpatient and clinic facilities on Monday, July 8, ahead of Beryl for the safety of patients and staff. Patients with appointments are being notified of the closures and rescheduling options.

Methodist Hospital

Sunday afternoon, all Houston Methodist locations remained open and patients were safe, the hospital system said on its website. Physicians, nurses and staff are prepared to handle almost any scenario. Houston Methodist has comprehensive severe weather policies and practices in place to keep patients and employees safe — their No. 1 priority. Staff is trained to deal with situations like this, and they said they'll make every effort to minimize any disruptions.

 Patients will be contacted by their doctor's office if their appointments are canceled or moved to virtual visits. Elective surgery decisions for Monday will be made this evening.

Texas Children's 

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, TCH said they planned to open all locations on Monday.

MD Anderson 

MDA's outpatient clinics, including imaging, labs, infusions and radiation, at all locations will open at 10 a.m., Monday, July 8.

MD Anderson is rescheduling morning appointments. Texas Medical Center surgeries and procedures will have delayed start times. Affected patients will be contacted by a member of their care team or clinic and schedule updates will be reflected in MyChart. Specific questions and concerns can be addressed via MyChart.   

There may be additional delays throughout the day due to schedule impacts from the storm. 

Employees should contact supervisors with specific questions or concerns about scheduling or personal arrangements.

Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center

For the safety of our Veterans and staff, the Houston VA Medical Center will be closed for outpatient appointments on Monday, July 8, as well as the Beaumont, Conroe, Humble, Katy, Richmond, Sugar Land and Tomball clinics.  Lake Jackson, Galveston and Texas City clinic will be closed July 8-9.

Veterans with appointments will be called to reschedule or provide virtual care. Veterans with medical questions can call the clinical Contact center at 713-794-8985. 

Staff who work in those areas are not required to report for work tomorrow. Staff with questions should contact their supervisors. 

UTMB

Please be advised that all classes scheduled for Monday, July 8, have been canceled due to Tropical Storm Beryl.

Baylor College of Medicine

Baylor College of Medicine and its clinics will open at noon on Monday, July 8. Patients will be communicated with directly on rescheduling appointments.

Legacy Community Health clinic

Legacy Community Health clinics are closing on Monday, July 8, due to the tropical storm Beryl in the region.

All Telehealth appointments will continue on Monday as planned.

Patients with appointments scheduled when the clinics are closed will be contacted proactively by clinic staff to reschedule their appointments.
