HCSO: Suspect charged after high-speed chase

HOUSTON A man was in custody after leading Harris County deputies on a brief chase Friday morning in east Houston.

Jason Mitchell Bowden is charged with evading arrest.

According to deputies, officers spotted Bowden speeding on Highway 90 near the Beltway 8 around 10:45 a.m.

They tried to pull Bowden over, but he refused.

Deputies gave chase, and eventually Bowden crashed into a stop sign near Fleming and I-10.

He fled on foot.

A woman who was with him at the time ran into a nearby beauty school, asking to use the phone.

She was questioned by deputies at the scene.

Whittier Elementary, which is located near where Bowden bailed out of his car, was put on lockdown for about an hour while deputies searched for the suspect.

Bowden was arrested sometime around noon, when an off-duty police officer noticed a suspicious person in the area and called the Harris County Sheriff s Office.

That person turned out to be Bowden, deputies said.
