HOUSTON Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino has been indicted on four felony offenses after a 14-month investigation.

The Harris County District Attorney s Office charged Trevino with misapplication of fiduciary property, abuse of official capacity and two charges of tampering with government records.

Trevino faces up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine on the misapplication case if convicted. He also faces six months to two years in the state jail and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted of the other charges.

The indictments allege Trevino used his elected position to induce on-duty uniformed deputy constables driving county vehicles to serve eviction and property vacate notices, not relating to their employment.

The indictments also accuse Trevino of improprieties in the handling of funds relating to his charity, CARE, and presenting campaign finance reports that failed to include mandatory contribution information.

Prosecutors and the DA s office interviewed more than 165 people while investigating the case.

Trevino's attorney, Chip Lewis said Friday that the charges are unfair and that the constable never profited from donations.

Lewis added that he was disappointed with the indictment and that Trevino did, nothing more than continue the policies of the preceding Constable.

Trevino has been Constable for Precinct 6 in Houston s east end for nearly 25 years.
