Galveston jail escapee back behind bars

GALVESTON, Texas - An accused bank robber who escaped from the Galveston County jail is back behind bars Sunday evening, according to authorities.

Alex Washington, 38, was being held without bail but apparently exchanged wristbands with another inmate who was granted bail.

Once the exchange was made, Washington had two individuals bond him out on a $100,000 bond.

Authorities said he walked out of the jail late Saturday night. He was caught on Bolivar Peninsula Sunday evening.

The inmate who exchanged wristbands with Washington, along with those who gave him the bond money, have been arrested, officials said.

Washington was in jail for robbing a Friendswood bank with three other people in August 2015.

He was also being held on a felony weapons warrant out of Harris County.
