Fuzzy's taco shop in Midtown severely damaged by fire

HOUSTON - Fuzzy's taco shop in Midtown suffered severe damage after it caught fire early Sunday morning.

The flames ripped through the business located at 138 West Gray around 5 a.m. Sunday. Fire investigators are probing the cause of the massive fire that torched the restaurant.

Authorities told KHOU 11 that the fire appears to be “suspicious” but that fire officials still have a lot of work to do in their investigation.

Houston Police retrieved surveillance video from Oporto, which is across the street from Fuzzy’s.

According to a manager at Oporto, the footage shows a vehicle outside the taco shop shortly before the fire started. That video is not being released at this time.

Neighbors in the area woke up to the sound of a transformer exploding and an orange glow. Many residents said they feared that their homes were going to catch fire because of how quickly it was spreading.

The Houston Fire Department was on scene in minutes and put out the blaze without anyone being injured.

It’s unclear where the fire started in the business, but witnesses said the flames appeared to flare up toward the front of the restaurant.

The Fuzzy’s taco shop location had just opened back in January.

The owner of the building told KHOU 11 News that he is a Houston firefighter and is “at a loss” over how the fire could’ve started.
