Frenchy’s Fried Chicken Restaurant founder dies at 86

The founder of Frenchy's restaurant died Sunday after he suffered a recent stroke, a family spokesperson says.

HOUSTON The founder of Frenchy s Fried Chicken restaurant died Sunday after recently suffering stroke, a family spokesperson announced Monday.

Percy Creuzot Jr. was 86 years old.

Everyone called Creuzot Frenchy, and he passed the name on to his original Creole restaurant, Frenchy s Po-Boy, which opened on Scott Street in 1969. Shortly after that, he switched the restaurant s focus to fried chicken.

Frenchy s Fried Chicken later expanded to include other Houston locations and became a fast-food chain beloved by generations of Houstonians.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Channel 11 viewers voted Frenchy s the best fried chicken in Houston.

State Rep. Garnet F. Coleman (D-Houston) said Creuzot touched the lives of many people in the community.

Percy Creuzot was a business pioneer in Houston, a community leader and a community steward, Coleman said. We ve lost a family friend. For anyone else who has frequented the Creuzot family restaurants, they feel the same.

Creuzot is survived by his wife Sallie Creuzot, three children, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
