HOUSTON A former Fort Bend County investigator was indicted Monday on an intoxicated manslaughter charge in connection with the death of a fellow investigator.
The off-duty investigators were riding a Harley-Davison motorcycle westbound along the Interstate 10 feeder around midnight on Oct. 28 when they hit a curb near Pin Oak Road and lost control.
The passenger on the bike, 45-year-old Shelley Nicodemus, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Moses Perez, suffered head and back injuries and was taken to Memorial-Hermann in the Medical Center.
Nicodemus had been with the Sheriff s Office for about 20 years and was a member of the Special Crimes Unit in the Criminal Investigation Division.
Investigators said Perez was intoxicated. He was going to be fired, but the department let him retire instead so he can collect a pension.
Perez turned himself in at the Fort Bend County Jail Wednesday morning and was released after posting bail on a $10,000 bond.
