CLEVELAND, Texas Six years later, the cold-blooded murders of an elderly Cleveland couple remain a mystery.
Antonio and Luz Rodriguez are buried among 75,000 others at Houston National Cemetery.
Antonio Rodriguez was 80 years old when he and his wife were bludgeoned to death at their home in the 100 block of Waco Street.
But even all these years after the murders, Rodriguez s family has yet to find peace.
My grandfather was a World War Two veteran. My grandmother was a mother of 13. And they took them from us that day, grandson Edward Rodriguez Banos said.
They were two little old people. Who could do something like that to them? Janie Espinoza said. They were crying out for help, and no one was there.
Carolina Tejeda is the one who found her parents after the crime.
I knew something wasn t right, she said.
When she went to check on them at their home that day, she found her mother s body first then her father.
He had blood running down his forehead and his eyes were kind of open, and I was screaming at him, Who did this to you, dad.? Tejeda recalled.
But there would be no answer.
Shortly after police arrived, dogs tracked the scent of a suspect across the railroad tracks to a nearby apartment complex, but apparently the trail went cold. No one was ever arrested.
Now, six years later, the whole family is looking for closure and justice.
The family said there s a $20,000 reward available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
