HOUSTON The family of a woman who was beaten and shot at a local bus stop is pleading for answers in the search for her killer.
Sadie Butler, a 57-year-old mother of six and grandmother of 13, was killed on June 10 at a Metro bus stop in the 5600 block of West Tidwell.
Family members said Butler, who lived with one of her daughters nearby, left the house on foot around 4:30 a.m. that day. Her family thought she was headed to her mother s house or maybe to a nearby game room.
But police said she never made it to where she was going. At some point, someone beat and shot her in the head at the bus stop, about four miles from her home. Her body was found around 6:30 a.m.
Butler s family said they can t fathom why anyone would want to harm the victim, and that she was not known to ride the bus.
Police said all of Butler s jewelry was left on her body, and nothing else was stolen from her, either. The motive for the murder is not known.
We re hurting right now. We re asking if anyone has information, to please come forward, Butler s daughter, Erica Boutte, said.
Investigators are also hoping to talk to the person who made the call to 911 that morning.
That person reportedly saw Butler lying at the bus stop and drove to a gas station at Antoine and West Tidwell to report it.
He is not a suspect, said HPD Officer Mark Coleman. We would like to speak him to find out what he may have seen. All we know at this time is he was a black male driving a newer model dark blue or black Chevrolet Impala.
Butler s family members said they re hoping someone out there will have a heart and call police with a tip.
She was the sweetest, most loving person, saidBoutte. She would give her heart, her last cent to anyone. Everyone loved her and she didn t have any enemies. That s why we don t understand why anyone would do this to her.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477 or HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600.
