ROSENBERG, Texas The children of a TDCJ prison guard accused of killing his wife and mother-in-law are living in fear.
Police believe the kids were watching when Albert James Turner stabbed Keitha Frank Turner and Betty Jo Frank in the Franks Rosenberg home last month.
Family members said the children are now being watched around the clock, because they re afraid Albert Turner will return.
Their biggest fear is their dad coming back to get them and kill them, the children s aunt, Gamila Frank, said.
Gamila Frank and her husband, Darren, have been caring for the children since the slayings on December 26.
Albert Turner is also accused of stabbing his father-in-law, Dr. Gene Frank, in the head.
Dr. Frank, a pastor at the Church of Living Waters in Rosenberg, survived the attack and is now recovering.
The prison guard took off after the murders, prompting law enforcement to launch a multi-state manhunt.
They believed he might be heading to his home state of Florida, but his car was found in a Georgia river a few days after the slayings.
Still, there s been no sign of Albert Turner.
When the sun goes down it s just really hard on them, Gamila Frank said.
She said the children are on edge so much so that a burglar alarm that accidentally went off last week made 7-year-old Hayden Turner think she was having a heart attack.
She was just telling us, Help me. I can t breathe, and that just goes to show that that alarm meant their Dad was coming in the door. It didn t mean anything other than that they felt that they were going to confront the exact situation that they did the day after Christmas, Gamila Frank said.
The Turner children don t go to sleep without the Franks setting the burglar alarm, and the Rosenberg police make frequent stops to see them. Also, at least two of the Frank family s friends sit awake inside the home every night.
If he is caught that will be a huge milestone for all of them, Gamila Frank said.
Investigators have received a lot of information from the public on Albert Turner s whereabouts.
The family said investigators told them one recent tip was particularly useful.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Albert Turner s capture.
