COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M got to show off its massive "Game of Thrones" collection to one of the hit series' biggest stars over the weekend.

From Kings Landing to Aggieland, nearly 50,000 pieces from author George R.R. Martin's personal collection are housed at Cushing Memorial Library & Archives on the A&M campus.

Lena Headey, who played the notorious Queen Cersea Lannister, and her husband, actor and Aggie grad Marc Menchaca, toured the campus and stopped by to check out the collection.

The couple also attended the Aggies Yell Practice and the Saturday night football game against the Texas Longhorns. She even learned how to "gig 'em."

“I’ll be really honest, 'I was like, ‘What’s happening? What has he brought me to?’" Headey told Texas A&M's Lesley Hinton.  "It was really very exciting, especially being a Brit, we don’t have things as wild as this. And the size of it, it was a bit like going to King’s Landing.”

Menchaca is a San Angelo native who had roles in several shows, including "Ozark" and "Homeland." The couple married in 2022.

Martin, who wrote the classic series "A Song of Ice and Fire," which GOT is based on, chose A&M to house his memorabilia collection after visiting the Texas A&M University Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection in the '70s. It includes GOT swords belonging to the Lannisters, Arya's "needle" and Ned Stark's "ice." There are also original manuscripts and artwork that feature the author’s handwritten notes. There are also keepsakes from the hit HBO series.

"We’ve got lunch boxes, and games and action figures and busts and all kinds of like weird little doodads," Jeremy Brett, curator of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection, said.

Most items can be seen by the public by appointment.
