HOUSTON — Attention working students! Thanks to an anonymous donor, you could get thousands of dollars to attend the University of Houston.
The university announced the $3 million donation on Tuesday, which will go toward the Houston Works Scholarship Fund. The scholarship money is for juniors and seniors in certain majors at the Bauer College of Business and the Division of Technology. It also goes to students in all majors at the Cullen College of Engineering.
Full-time students who work at least 20 hours per week could be awarded $4,000 per academic semester or a maximum of $8,000 for the year.
The scholarships will be awarded by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid. It's based on applications and working hours. To quality, students must be earning a degree in one or more of the following:
- All engineering majors in the Cullen College of Engineering
- Finance
- Accounting
- Supply Chain Management
- Management Information Systems
- Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Electrical Power Engineering Technology
- Construction Management
- Computer Information Systems
- Computer Engineering Technology
- Supply Chain and Logistics Technology
According to the University of Houston, the donation will help go toward their goal to raise $300 million in scholarships.
Students who are eligible and interested should check with their academic advisor. The scholarship is expected to be available in the fall.
