HOUSTON — The next legislative session is just a little over four months away and teachers across the state want to make sure lawmakers do not forget about them.

The union Texas AFT said they want to push lawmakers to pass a new educator bill of rights. It would define higher wages, professional development and safer conditions for teachers across the state.

The bill would also demand secure retirement and affordable childcare, according to the union.

According to the union, teachers in Texas make around $9,000 less than the national average.
