HOUSTON — Heights High School was evacuated as a precaution this afternoon due to a bomb threat," according to HISD.
At 12:48 p.m., the school tweeted, "Building had to be evacuated. Students are safe and secure. #updates coming as we know more."
"The Houston ISD Police and Fire Departments responded quickly and are investigating the situation. Please know, the safety of our students is our absolute top priority," Principal Hampton said in a message to parents.
Students were moved to the football field until the building was cleared. Some parents picked up their children.
Just before 2 p.m., the school tweeted that the students were allowed back inside and 6th period would start at 2:30 p.m.
"We are back to lunch for 30 minutes then at 2:30 6th period starts. Thank you for helping keep kids safe and continue to educate your students," the tweet said.
We have a crew at the school on East 13th St. between Arlington and Oxford for updates.
