HOUSTON — It’s the first day of school for Aldine ISD and some parents reported bus route issues to us Monday morning.
We weren’t able to speak to parents on camera, but an email was sent to KHOU 11 about students not having assigned bus routes on Monday.
We caught up with Superintendent Dr. Latonya Goffney at Hinojosa Primary, one of the campuses she visited to make sure things go smoothly for the first day of school.
Goffney said the bus route issue has now been resolved.
The superintendent said that 160 students out of 40,000 students in the district weren’t routed on a school bus due to a glitch.
The glitch affected their new bus transportation pass-badging system, where parents can follow their students and map out where they are.
Goffney said they ended up having all of their transportation supervisors go back around and make additional stops to pick up any students who missed the bus.
Here’s her message to parents about what happened:
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff are a priority for Aldine ISD, and we are excited to welcome them back for the 2024-2025 school year. We are aware that some of our students have experienced bus route issues. The Aldine ISD Transportation Department is diligently working through systematic challenges to ensure our students make it to school safely on time and ready to learn. We anticipate the issue to be resolved as soon as possible and will communicate routing updates to parents. In the meantime, parents have been advised to use the transportation bus pass until they are permanently assigned to a bus route.”
