HOUSTON An inmate serving time in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for burglary and injury to a child was linked to an unsolved sexual assault of a woman in 2008, according to the Harris County District Attorney s office.

Investigators say DNA evidence showed Ramiro Ismael Alaniz-Silva brutally raped a woman, then left her naked in the middle of a street.

According to court documents, a woman was walking in the 6700 block of Avenue I on September 9, 2008. She was several blocks away from her home when Alaniz-Silva approached her and offered her a ride home.

She accepted the ride, but said once inside the vehicle, Alaniz-Silva refused to take her home and drove to a warehouse located in the 200 block of N. Norwood.

Investigators said once they arrived to the warehouse, Alaniz-Silva grabbed her hair, struck her in the face and sexually assaulted her.

He then drove the victim to the 6000 block of Navigation Blvd. and left her naked in the street.

The woman was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and given a rape kit examination.

Authorities did not have an identity on the suspect, so the evidence was stored with the Harris County Medical Examiner s laboratory.

CODIS performed a routine check of DNA stored in the lab and came back with a positive match.

The DNA linked Alaniz- Silva, who was already serving time on unrelated charges, to the old rape case.

The victim was shown a photo lineup and positively identified Alaniz-Silva as her attacker.

Authorities charged him with sexual assault of an adult with no bond.
